History Revived
When a landmark building has stood since 1770 and has always been regarded as one of the finest eighteenth-century buildings in Dublin, its refurbishment and adaptation for modern use calls for the finest in design, architecture and materials.
We all know that stone is durable, it’s been the building material of choice throughout history. Archaeological sites around the world feature building made of stone that have endured for thousands of years. Here at McKeon Stone, we source our famous blue limestone from our own limestone quarry in Threecastles, Kilkenny and cut and craft it to each of our customer’s unique designs. We’ve been doing this since 1950 but the sought-after blue limestone from Threecastles quarry has been a popular choice since time immemorial because it stands the test of time.
The McKeon Stone workshop at Stradbally was the location for the carving of limestone panels which were erected as a memorial to the 1916 Rising in Lusk, County Dublin.
Like in the years before, Stone-Ideas.com’s editors have collected some inspirations for presents for the loved ones
The book „Marble 4.0“ gives an overview of Italian industry designer Raffaello Galiotto’s experimental works with natural stone during the last years. Most of them were exhibited at Marmomac in Hall 1. His spectacular forms which give the marble a new and contemporary expression bring together craftsmanship and CNC-technology in a groundbreaking way.
Limestone Variations on a Natural Theme
McKeon’s Kilkenny Blue Limestone has been used by sculptor Peter Randall-Page to create three massive works representing geometric forms of the kind which frequently occur in the natural world. They are currently on public display at Castle Drogo, near Drewsteignton in Devon, England.
